I’ve been working for the past several months, on and off, on a new documentary project for the producer of the documentary film I did last year and got a huge batch of audio this week. I like when a get large volume order like that because it means I can hunker down and work for a few days and then take it easy for the next couple. I’ve got a couple more days to do on it, but they should be shorter than the last few and I’m hoping to call off early and go to La CaΓ±ada for lunch tomorrow and then into AlmerΓa for more sightseeing on Thursday and/or Friday, depending on what else comes in.
The weather has been disappointing, with unseasonably cool temps. It’s been okay between about 1:00Β and 5:00, when the sun is bearing down in full force, but earlier in the day and by the time I quit around 8:00, I really don’t have any clothes with me to make a walk around the block comfortable. If this keeps up, I’ll have to look into a warm coat much sooner than expected. π But, again, the afternoons are super comfortable and the cloud cover parted today to give me perfect walking conditions.
So I headed out around 4:00 and was a block (halfway, pretty much) to the beach when an older lady stopped me and started asking me questions. She had a really thick accent and I had to tell her, “I’m sorry, I don’t understand.” Undaunted and patient, she continued much more slowly, using different words when needed ,and proceeded to ask me a bunch of questions and pretty much got my life story in five minutes, LOL! It was a really lovely chat and I realised that I rather needed that bit of social interaction since I don’t yet fluently understand the cat here. π
This palm tree on the beach seemed like a cheeky fellow, with his fronds up in the air like that.
I liked this house with the unusual round corner and roof.
I must have walked a couple of kilometres trying to get back to my street since this neighbourhood is a maze. I was never lost, just kept coming up to dead ends!
I came in and worked for a couple of hours, then called off and started to make dinner when a client emailed to asked if I could take a couple of short jobs due in a few hours. *sighs* I just have to remember that I’m funding the next leg of this great big adventure! π I’m not ready yet to blog about a lot of things going on behind the scenes, but there could be multiple huge expenditures over the next several months that I had not anticipated when I left in June. Nothing bad, all very exciting, just a lot to sort through and process.
Well, dinner smells ready, so I’d better eat and then get back to work. That feels like that’s all I’ve been doing for the last two days!
By the way, the cat here? I’m totally in love. But I bet that’s not a surprise. π
I can almost hear the old lady assuring the neighbors that you are fine so they don’t need to worry. π
LOL I had the same thought!
Yes, that lady was definitely getting the scoop on you. Nice to have a furry companion for long work days (I have a poodle asleep on my lap right now). I understand what too much work feels like but when self-employed it is definitely a blessing.
I’ve been taking it way too easy this year, so I recognise that when I have a chance like this to sit for a few weeks and type without having a lot of expenses and distractions, I need to take it! π
And the cat is wonderful. She does give me a bit of structure since she has a set routine I have to follow.
Lately you have been sending me to the dictionary: Temporal Flux, Paripatetic, Coddiwompling and now… Moiling. Reading your blog is like earning a PHD! I enjoy every post. π
Joe, you’re funny! “temporal flux” definitely comes from too much sci-fi watching! Moiling comes from too much time up north in Canada and reading Robert Service! π
Still better weather than some of us are enjoying. We are in Oregon and it is cold and rainy! Hummm… announcements to come!
You could not pay me to spend another winter in Oregon.
The announcements won’t be coming for months yet, so don’t get too excited. π
If you are having some not-so-warm days, staying cozy inside and getting work done while being paid are logical choices. You noted that you will be having some unexpected (but exciting) expenditures; might those expenditures be Africa?

By the way, Kevin and Ruth Read of Travel with Kevin and Ruth have experienced a snow blizzard in Romania. You sure got out of that part of Europe just in time! Ruth blames it on Kevin for not checking the frequency of such weather conditions before he sprung for the airplane tickets; Kevin says the current climate is not normal and is a freak occurrence. However, the snow goes with the “Christmasy” atmosphere. There actually is a St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Brasnov!

I would have probably been in Albania right now if the Spain thing hadn’t come up and their weather right now is actually very similar to what I’m experiencing here! At any rate, I won’t be able to avoid winter forever as I have to head to the UK at the start of January to get out of the Schengen zone.
The announcements have nothing to do with whether or not I figure out a way to go to Morocco for a bit.
Waiting for the new exciting announcement!
You’re excellent st time management do it’s good you try to get out & about.
Hugs
Vicki, it’ll be a few months yet! π
I am good at time management, something that never fails to astound new clients…
