A Wasted Month and Back to Square One

I went to VR Expert today to check on the status of the repair work. NOTHING had been done. It has been HOT the last few weeks and the guys felt that there was an ‘odour’ in the rig so they couldn’t work in it. I went in, opened windows and air hatches, and 10 minutes later, the ‘odour’ was gone. Gang of idiots who couldn’t call me right away to come and take care of the problem!

I asked why the outdoor work covered by the insurance wasn’t done. Because they do all the work at the same time, never mind that I told them that I need the insurance work done first to get the cheque for it by the time my work was done.

The service tech really doesn’t care if he gets my money or not. The work on the motorhome, including the part covered by the insurance, is $4,000 and the tow package installation would have been another $2,000. I wish my business was running so smoothly that I could afford to give up $6,000!

I told him that I would be checking back on Thursday and that if nothing was started that they could do just the insurance portion and forget the rest. The guy said that would suit him just fine! I have until now been very polite and patient and haven’t called every two days for updates. This was the first time I got angry with him, so where this attitude is coming from, I have no idea.

So Miranda has been in the shop for a month for nothing. I am convinced at this point that I am going to end up picking her up Friday with absolutely no work done on her. That means I have to start all over again to find a shop to do the insurance portion, have to get the insurance company to cancel the cheque to VR Expert waiting to be mailed out, have to get a new estimate, have to get a new insurance approval, have to wait again for a shop to have time to take me…

Needless to say, forget the overhang repair at this point. It’s too late for that. I’m just going to take a cooler day, remove the trim and existing Eternabond, apply new tape, and the seal it in by reapplying the trim over top.

I am so angry and I just want to cry.

  1. That is the kind of crap that goes on in that part of this wonderful country. I lived in that crazy part of the world for seven years, I was so happy to leave and never looked back!!

  2. I still find it amazing how businesses can consider customers an inconvenience!! Time for you to return to the west. We love you out here…. Hugs and comforting licks from your fuzzy nephew and niece.

  3. I might as well not get the rest of the work done and save the money for a trip to the Maritimes because I really have no desire to ever come back to this part of the continent again, ie. east of the Mississippi. I miss the RV friendly west so much.

  4. Do you know a local attorney you could have give them a call on your behalf? Sometimes a quick call is all it takes to get things moving.

  5. Frustrating! I know you read Tioga George’s blog and have been following the repairs he is having done on his rig in Pancho’s body shop in Mexico. He has simply learned to accept that in Mexico work only gets done when you are there watching every move and if you walk out the door, work stops. This was proven once again when he returned from his trip to the USA and found his MH parked at the body shop in the same condition it was when he left. In Mexico, this is expected. My experience in Mexico is different than his but we will leave that for another time.

Maybe this is what you have to do, drive out there every day to make sure they are doing their job.

  6. Hi Rae,
Although this really does SUCK… you should be very proud of yourself how you have handled everything up to now. Yes women get the run around from jerks like this, so maybe you can bring (said with a deep voice) a “man-ly man” with you next time you stop by the shop. I bet they might think before they speak with a man around. It’s a shame you have to bring someone & the repair guys don’t have enough respect for their customers.
It does sound like a hassle to take Miranda from there & find another shop, but it would save alot of stress & tears.
I had to deal with my insurance company after an accident (not my fault) & they did nothing but cause me grief & I was soo stressed out I couldn’t deal with them on any level.
Whatever you do, it will be the right thing for you.

Thanks for all the photos in the last few posts too, they were great.

    Hang in there πŸ™‚
    Vicki

  7. Sometimes a good cry really helps. Doesn’t solve the problem but your body gets great stress relief. I know it sucks but maybe you don’t want them making crappy/halfhearted repairs that may rear uptheir heads at the most inopportune time ( Towing the toad up a hill in some deluge, the seams rip, water pouring in and then the hitch gives out) OK, I was going for worst case kinda visuals. Could be a blessing.

  8. Vicki, I really hope that you’re wrong and that I’m not being treated this way because I’m a woman. πŸ™

Lucie, I completely agree that the relationship is broken and that it doesn’t make sense to push them for repairs now. I don’t trust them.

1001petals, good to hear from you! (((hugs))) back!

  9. I agree with Lucie. It’s time to move on down the road and find a mechanic you can trust.

Can you imagine this group honoring any type of warranty?

  10. I’m of the opinion as well that “That ship has sailed”. Find another repair place, go and speak to them, tell your little tale of woe, then go back and fetch the RV and take it there.
This guy is a, how shall I put this? Right, “F**king moron” comes to mind. There’s no “getting around” a “F**king moron”. They’re best to be avoided. It’s similar to the idea that, “you can’t fix ‘stupid’. ”
Get the word out in as many places as possible to avoid these people like the plague. It ‘s a time waster I realise, but very cathartic.
RV service reviews/ is a good place to start.
There’s no “preview” feature, so hopefully I haven’t botched that link.
