Just as I hit publish on that last post, the mechanic/tower came to see me to ask if I’d spoken to the insurance company. I explained that because of the time zone difference, nothing is going to happen today and that I think I could be here till into next week because I’m not paying for anything until an adjuster takes a look at everything. He said that’s fine with him, “as long as you’re self-contained.”
Power is not a problem and my black tank is at barely a quarter full. I’m out of water in the on board tank, but I have tons of water in jugs that I can use for washing up and whatnot. So I’m fine on that end. I am going to ask the insurance company to pay for a hotel while I’m stuck so that I have a place to hang out during the day that is closer to my friend’s home and where I can take showers. She and I are going to a midnight movie premiere tomorrow, so that would be a very late night for me if I had to come back to the rig to sleep. So even if the insurance company says no, I am going to pay for a hotel room for at least one night. I am also going to see if Aviva would pay for a rental car for a bit longer than Intact would.
So I’m settled in for the long haul and looking forward to speaking with the adjusters so that I can get the ball rolling on salvaging the rest of my vacation.
On the bright side, life is a constant adventure when you live this lifestyle! You are obviously meant for it as you have proven your ability to roll with the punches.
Enjoy your vacation!
Under my rosy disposition, there is a niggly voice yelling, “ABANDON SHIP!” 🙁
Anyway, there’s no sense worrying until I speak with the insurance company.
No, no, no! Don’t abandon ship. BAIL, instead. Oh, what stories you’ll have to tell years from now. I’m living vicariously through you now that my rig is parked in my driveway.
Rae,
Wow, you are really having a time of it right now. My fingers are crossed for you that they find the current mechanical problems are related to the accident. Hang in there, we are all pulling for you.
I know right now it does not seem like it is worth all the stress even if everything turns out in your favor, but time will fix everything that happens today and the more you can disassociate yourself from the emotional part and think of it as a business transaction the better you will be able to cope today and enjoy where you are right now the best you can. Yes, easier said than done.
Just imagine how much worse it could have been, I have friends that had this sort of incident and they rolled over, their rig was totaled and they both had to be hospitalized. In a couple years (that will pass very quickly) a couple grand one way or the other will not seem like a big deal.
So far you are having VERY good luck obtaining road side rescue and services.
Nothing that has happened the last few days is your fault, so no stress there.
Get that rental car out and keep busy. Hopefully when this is all over you will end up better off with no car payment and some towing improvements
🙂
We are all anxiously waiting for a positive outcome.
