Data Usage Notification

I just tried to load a webpage and this came up:

warning

If you can’t read that, it’s a data usage notification from Bell. It says that I am at more than 90% usage for this billing period and that I have less than 1.5GB available to me to get me to June 13th. If I exceed that amount, I will be charged $10 per additional gigabyte.

1) I am very proactive in watching my bandwidth usage, but I appreciate the ISP looking out for me.

2) $10 per additional GB?! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Like that’s going to scare me. I once had to pay Telus $220 in overages for TWO GB ($165 billable to a client, however).

Bell sucks, but their bandwidth package definitely doesn’t.

  1. I think as a matter of practice Verizon makes the same notification. I’ve already gotten a notice that I’ve used half my bandwidth for the month, with only 2 or 3 days to go to the end of the billing period. That’s when I watch Utube.

  2. I get alerts from Verizon, but they’re very general and rather useless. Plus, they come in the form of text messages that cut off my internet signal and wrecks havoc on my computer. What a pain. And they can’t even stop it (I tried several times and there’s no way around it).

  3. Verizon sends me a notice at the 50% point and then again at 75%. I am happy to get them, when I first started with Verizon they did not do that and I checked my usage every 3-4 days to find out how much my usage was.

  4. I check my data usage several times a day, another reason why Verizon and Bell are superior to Telus, whose data monitoring system only updates every few days. I average out how many MB I can use per day, so checking every few hours helps me keep on track and often reminds me to get off Youtube or Netflix!
