It’s been really warm for the last week or so, even through the night, and the house hasn’t been cooling off at all. Except for the few days when I first arrived, house has always been a cool oasis, so it’s been pretty shocking to come in the last few days and have the house feel like a furnace.
Last night, I woke up gasping around 11:30 and had to not only turn on the overhead fan, but also the very large boxed floor fan that I have thus far not felt a need for. Unfortunately, noise and light here made opening a window not an option. But with the fans on, I was afterwards able to sleep well.
I’ve always done well in cold weather, but since my weight loss, I’m not handling cold at all and much more tolerant of heat.
So all that to say BEST EARLY SPRING EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow! I don’t know how you can sleep with the windows closed. Ours are open every night, 365 days of the year regardless. Even in Mexico. 😉
I can’t sleep with the noise. That’s all there is to it.
I HAVE to have a window open or I can’t sleep. Even with the RV neighbor beside us having her bedroom TV blaring ou her window into ours. Even in Edmonton at -20C I had to open the window an inch or two.
I must have quiet and dark and constant temperature to sleep. To each their own.
Windows open all year long, summers wide, winters just a bit. But fresh air is the key to a good night’s sleep. Get used to the noise, I deal with train whistles starting at three in the morning. But without that fresh air I am polluted.
Wow. I do not tell others how they should live and I am always boggled by people who think they have all the answers.
No one has all the answers, just individual preferences and it is interesting to hear other’s. We bought a large piece of mosquito netting to hang over the rear window of the motor home so we could swing that window wide open at night.
Many hot, humid nights when I could not sleep I was sorely tempted to hang my hammoca outside where there might be a breeze To catch.
Croft, I did not take issue with yours and Contessa’s comments. I take issue with someone telling to what *I* should be doing (ie. getting used to the noise).
Do I like sleeping with the window closed here? No. But I’d rather do that than sleep with the light of a street lamp shining right in my face and a rooster crowing just a few feet from my ears. I need the heavy blinds and I need the extra noise protection the window affords.
When I am somewhere quieter and with no direct light into my bed (I can sleep just fine in a non-darkened room thanks to my Yukon experience of 24 hours of daylight), of course all windows and roof hatches are open.
I agree with you about the light. Right now I have a piece of cardboard taped to the rear window where a street light shines in my face.
I had to put two heavy blankets over the window to block the streetlight and my neighbour’s spotlight that comes on randomly during the night.
The motion detector lights on my workshop must have driven you nuts when you were parked at our place that winter. Raccoons, cats and probably the huge local Norwegian Rats set them off all night. Hopefully you found the switch to turn them off.
I was a night owl back then and didn’t sleep much at night (mostly slept 4AM to noon), so I never really noticed it!
