Well, it looks like I am canceling my trip to Durango because of… snow. I am getting reports of bad road conditions, delays, and chilly temperatures there. Doesn’t sound like much fun to me! I’ll be hitting the road in about five weeks so I’m actually not sure that a long road trip this weekend sounds like much fun anyway.
I have advised my clients that I am taking the three days off and, of course, the trip is budgeted for. So I’m still taking the weekend off for a staycation.
I’m doing an airport run on Saturday and from there will continue on to a small town out of Mazatlán for a change of scenery. I’ve narrowed it down to two possibilities. That will let my truck stretch her legs (tires, I guess) and alert me to any potential issues before I take off next month.
Sunday, I think I will bus it to the far end of the Golden Zone and walk back until I drop, then take a pulmonía to the panga from wherever that is.
Monday could be a chore and relax day at home, and would mean not having to cancel riding!
I’m not disappointed. There’s so much around here for me to see and I really don’t want to run into snow! 😀
Well I heard that the snow was just Saturday as was the hail here in Mazatlan for the first time ever. There was a cold front that came through over the weekend. Things should be back to normal by the time you are/were ready to hit the road. Nothing wrong with staying here though. Teacapan is a one day round trip from here.
Hail here?
Thing is this is not an isolated report from that stretch of road. I’m not taking a chance of getting caught in snow with a truck that does poorly in it and the wrong clothes. I’m a nervous mountain driver regardless of the conditions and there are too many variables here for me to feel taking a chance.
As per Croft’s recommendation, I am going to El Quelite. 🙂
Yup hail in Mazatlan on Saturday. Well as you know Dale and 2 other rigs left today on the Durango road. Where are you getting your reports from? I am getting mine from the main source of news here, Noreste. El Quelite will be nice.
I got my report from one of my riding friends who have friends who just got back from Durango and were delayed because of weather. I’m waiting for Dale’s report.
The forecast for the weekend in Durango isn’t great, either. I don’t feel like digging out the warmer weather clothes. It’s just not that big a deal to me. The point was to take a weekend off and see something new and I will do that, but with less risk and expenditure.
Just be happy you’re not in the Maritimes…
My friends in the Maritimes hate me right now. 😀
The weekend weather report looks good but you are getting real life reports. The road and the town will still be there next year.
