I’m Really Okay!

After some recent comments and emails, I want to go on record to say that, yes, it’s bloody cold but I am more comfortable in Miranda in these temps than I ever was during a warmer BC winter!

The winter here has been very dry. I’m not struggling with humidity and condensation and the cold hasn’t seeped into my bones. I have no trouble whatsoever focusing on work. At night, I use my electric blanket to keep toasty and except for the few nights where I’ve had to switch propane tanks, I’ve been sleeping very soundly.

It’s been very cold all over the continent the last week or so. If I had been down south, I would have been facing unexpected propane expenses and RV park fees and would not have been able to do the kind of work hours I’m doing now to make up for any of that.

I can honestly say that I’d rather be here right now where I’m toasty, well situated, surrounded by friends,  able to work overtime, and able to budget to a point than to be in another country facing a very long trip through erratic weather while short on funds as one calamity piles onto another like it was this past spring.

So I appreciate the concern everyone has expressed but I’m not just putting on a brave face. I’m really okay!

  1. Of course you are! We just think we couldn’t cope with your situation so we tend to forget you do this better than we would.

  2. There is a church here that distributes bumper stickers that say..
    IGBOK
    It’s Gonna Be OK
I think that is your Mantra! 🙂

  3. I’m really glad it’s ok. I wouldn’t want to do it, I am cold in my own apartment and it’s about 22*C in here. I don’t have control of the heat, though 🙁

  4. Glad to hear you are doing OK despite the cold temps. I don’t think I’d be able to handle it as well as you. Way down here in NM it is colder than I prefer, but this little rig easily keeps me warm and comfortable. I’m actually enjoying the cool temps. Although, the chill wind keeps me inside, when I’d prefer to be out and about. Hope you stay cozy, and fill your accounts, so you can roam again next summer. Take care.

  5. Some in the rv park up here (grande prairie,ab)wrap an electric battery blanket on their propane tank as well as some bubble wrap insulation. It brings the temp up enough to vaporize all the liquid in the tank.Wishing you a Merry Christmas and aBlessed 2014.P.S. I enjoy following your (and Crofts) blog.

    • Fred, I may try using an electric blanket around my tanks the next time we get a cold snap. Thanks!

(living in an RV in Grande Prairie in winter is more adventurous than I ever plan to be!)

  6. Glad all is well in SK Rae – sounds like you’re busy! We had a cold snap here in NB, and more recently a lot of snow. Had to plow the driveway 3 times since Sunday. All the best for the season……

  7. We think of you every day out there on the Prairies in this Winter weather lugging those propane tanks around.

Congrats on loosing the weight, it’s hard to do.

Keep plugging along and enjoy the Christmas season with your friends.

    Happy, Healthy and Prosperous 2014!!

  8. I wanted to Comment about your Sears shopping experience but I do NOT DO Facebook.
What I wanted to say is that it is iconic that Sears, J. C. Penny and Wards all were successful Mail Order companies but were not been able to convert that marketing skill to the Internet.
In the early years of the 20th century Sears was the top name for customer service. Now they are struggling to remain in business.

    • Ed, shopping from the Sears catalogue was a favourite thing when I was a child. It’s sad that they haven’t figured out how the internet works.

  9. I have a recipe similar to you Brussells Sprouts Navidad. Sprouts cut into thirds, diced tofu, into skillet with a splash of olive oil and stir fry. When almost done add a enough sweet chili sauce to suite you. GOOOOOD!

  10. Happy New Year, My Friend. May you have a 2014 filled with all the experiences that will make your life a full and enjoyable one.
(And we hope to see you some time in 2014.)
