A Kick in the Pants

The only thing missing to make the return to Haven perfect was running water. I was in Willow Bunch today and went to the town office to ask when I could expect the hydrant to be turned on for me, but the office was closed.

Well, late afternoon, there was a knock at my door from a town maintenance guy who wanted to inform me that he’d been procrastinating on getting the hydrant open, but seeing me moved back and settled was the kick in the pants he needed to get the job done! Everyone here is so kind!!!

I’m hooked up and filling the holding tank now, seeing as I need the water pump to get enough pressure for a shower. Once the tank is full, I’ll be able to see if the water heater fires up. Let’s cross all our appendages that I will be able to take a shower at home tonight!

My water system appears undamaged (no leaks) from the harsh winter I just put it through, so I’m cautiously optimistic. But we all know how temperamental my water heater can be…

  1. i asked the question on Facebook but what are your plans for waste? A rock pit would serve for the grey but I understand the black water has to be stored for pickup so what do you need for that? A buried holding tank? Can you come up with your own or do you need an “approved” one?

  2. I’m doing like I did last year for the black. I empty in my Blue Boy and take the waste down to the lagoon for dumping.

  3. Dumping in the lagoon may be an old Canadian custom but it does not sound very environmental. Would you care to expand upon what you are doing with your black water waste?

I understand a lagoon to be a shallow body of water separated from a larger body of water by barrier islands or reefs. This is not what you are dumping your raw sewage into or is it?

  4. Linda, I emailed the town office last night to inform them that I need to be billed for water starting today. The email I got was, paraphrasing, “What? Your water’s on? A reminder just popped up on my calendar to have that done. I kept dismissing it and never put the order out! Who’s being efficient?!” LOL!!!
