Good Timing

I can’t believe the weather right now along the route I took over the last three weeks (can’t believe it’s been that long). For those not following the news, I’m talking about the tornados between Oklahoma City and Wichita.

A recent tornado warning in Shawnee, OK, where I spent three nights, was ‘You could be killed if not underground or in a tornado shelter.’ Wichita news station KSN was dramatically evacuated while live on the air.

The recent Wichita tornado was in L’s part of the city. He doesn’t get concerned until a tornado is bearing straight at him, considering a touch down just two miles away to be of little concern, but I have asked him to check in.

Am I glad I got through before this mess. L did put tornados into their proper context for me, but these events are hitting a little too close for me right now.

  1. Just goes to show you. You were sorry to have to head home so soon–you would have liked to stay south for longer. But by going home when you did, you missed the storms. And then you found a Haven, with new friends and an exciting plan for setting up and settling in for a while. I am so glad everything is working out so well. (Pooh pooh pooh!!–a cultural thing which I can’t stop myself from adding to ward off the evil eye!) I am enjoying your blog very much these days!

  2. Debbie, I still resist the words ‘going home.’ 🙂 Funny how for someone who firmly believes in fate, I resist it so much. Yet much as I am enjoying being here, I still wish I was down in the States where gas wasn’t more than $5 a gallon and I could eat for a month on $75 worth of groceries.

As for your ‘cultural thing’, OMG, I envisioning the wedding scene from My Big Fat Greek wedding where Toula is walking down the aisle and the ladies are spitting on her! 😀

  3. I’m so glad we are both out of there. We got a couple of watches here but no touch downs. Steve & Carol were 2 miles from a tornado but in a safe place at the time. Another blog friend but not RVer was 8 miles from the one in Moore, OK. So far everyone I know in the area is reporting in safe.
